  • Amanda G. says: I haven't been to Detrick in several years. All I remember is that it's SMALL and clothing sales never had what my husband needed after we drove 20 miles to get there. But was a shopping center with grocery store not too far outside post and a ton of stuff not to far away at the mall and on Rt 40.

  • Jennifer W. says: I grew up in Frederick. The base is small not much housing on post you will most likely live off post. The area surrounding Frederick is awesome. Only an hour or so to DC or Baltimore so tons of activities to get into. Not sure if you will be looking for a house or apt while living there. The downtown part of Frederick has restored old houses converted to apts. There is an awesome park called Baker Park and a lot of dining options all within walking distance and all with in a 10 min drive of base. If you are more interested in living in the country you can find a house to rent within 20 mins of base towards Thurmont or Emmitsburg. As with any move it is what you make of it and I think you can have a great time.

  • Ryan G. says: We where stationed there a couple of years ago. It's very small but you can't beat the area. Far enough but close enough to DC. I'd live on base. The new housing is great but they also have old housing as well. We lived in Hagerstown for 2 years. The housing is cheaper but it's about a 25-35 min commuite depending on which part of town you live.

  • Amanda G. says: If you can't get post housing you may do better to look in PA and commute in. It's not that far if you live off Rt 15. A lot of people who work in the Frederick area and east live in southern PA and Hagerstown and commute.
